I come from a Persian background and was born in Iran, a country where the majority of the population follows Shia Islam.

As part of school, I became familiar with the teachings and practices of Shia Islam. However, my family never forced me to practise a particular religion, so faith was not a major part of my childhood. I spent most of those years playing, learning, and enjoying life.

I was a teenager when my family moved to Tehran, the capital of Iran. Around that time, I became more aware that members of my extended family were actively involved in religious rituals. This sparked my curiosity and encouraged me to learn more about God, different religions, and various denominations.

Having said that, I did not feel comfortable attending religious events at the time because I did not agree with their close ties to the government. Instead, I maintained a personal connection with God and prayed in a way that felt natural and comfortable to me.

Before moving to Australia, I also visited a few churches in Iran as part of my journey to learn more about Christianity.

After moving to Australia, I continued to maintain my connection with God, although I did not attend any particular religious services or events.

I remember that when my mom, Susan, was visiting me, she asked whether there was a church nearby that she could attend. At the time, I was living in Mawson Lakes.

Funny story, when I first looked up MLCC, I was confused about the location. I was expecting to find a separate church building or a chapel, but then I realised that it was located within Endeavour College.

I still clearly remember that I found MLCC online and called the number listed on the website. Gwen and Ross answered, arranged to meet us at their home, and told us about the Sunday service.

At first, I mainly attended because I needed to take mom to church and, at times, act as her translator! However, over time, I began to feel a genuine connection. Before long, I found myself wanting to attend Sunday service even when mom was unable to come.

I could feel something changing within me, a growing sense of connection and a strong desire to learn more about Jesus.

Mom and I were very fortunate to become part of MLCC, where we found a welcoming and accepting community.
